I spent a couple hours with Scott and Cara today, wedding is in July, at Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where Scott went to high school. We shot around the art museum which is a popular area for photographers. Cara was a diver and gymnast in high school and college and gave me the idea for the jumping. They were fun to work with and I think it shows in the photos. Click photos for bigger view.

I think I like the above shot in black and white even more.

Some people think it’s crazy to just ride a bike 300 miles let alone carrying cameras and photographing it along the way, but its not. I think the real superstars are the volunteers who take care of us riders for three days, because we would be riding anyway. And also the families of the wish kids, what courage and strength!
This will be my toughest WAM yet as after 10 years of racing mountain bikes I decided to stop racing and unfortunately let myself get horribly out of shape. I have a lot of work to do but I always remember it’s for the kids! Thanks for stopping by and donate as much as you can even if it’s just giving up a Starbucks for a day or two.

The Observer & Eccentric newspapers (covers metro Detroit burbs) did a story on my and shooting "Trash The Dress" portraits. It was published in their Wedding guide last Thursday. Here is the online version. GO TO STORY.
No photo online but the photos below ran in the print edition.
I've had a few inquiries already including a woman getting a divorce who wants to "trash the dress" for very different reasons then most of my clients. Hopefully it get the word out more and I will be posting more TTD images soon.

MEGHANN & LUKE (AND COLIN!)

I shot Meg & Luke's wedding last night and Meg's son, and now Luke's son, Colin was everywhere for photos. I really enjoyed watching and photographing Meg with Colin and Luke with Colin. The wedding ceremony was quite emotional as Meg's mother had to go to the hospital with an infection and looked to miss the wedding. Meg really had to fight the emotional flood just before walking down the aisle. Then halfway through the ceremony her mom made an appearance to everyones delight. The priest made the announcement that she joined the ceremony and everyone cheered and applauded and there were quite a few tears. Her mom had to return to the hospital for treatment after a brief stay at the reception. I am so happy for you Meg! I really enjoyed spending time with Meg, Luke their families and of course Colin. Lots of love in the air in Monroe last night!

ERIN AND DREW

I shot Erin and Drew’s big day over the weekend on a chilly November day. The cold didn’t get in the way of a good time for them and their families. The church was under construction but still looked great. And the reception hall was decorated AWESOME. And I loved the ceiling! So many ceilings are hard to work with photographically because they are to high or to dark for bouncing light or just plain don’t look good and I like to shoot low angles of dancing when I can so this can be a problem. Not Saturday though!

Oh ya I got banned. I’m missing two photos from their day. Them signing the marriage license. The priest called Erin and her maid of honor to his office before the ceremony and as I was following he looked at me sternly and said, “Excuse me sir” as in don’t come in here. Not a big deal but I hate feeling like I missed a photo. I have always had a hard time excepting someone telling me no photos no matter if its a priest, a cop or anyone else. Access is everything in photojournalism. Still got some fantastic shots! Well Erin and Drew should be on the beach in a warm sunny place right about now and having a great time! Thanks guys, you and your families were so nice to me!!!

I had a short article feature me and the "trash the dress" trend in the local paper, The Northville Record. GO HERE for the online version. Thanks Tony for grabbing a shot of me photographing Lisa that they could use. Sorry the cropped is kind of bad but it looks like they needed to fit that spot on the page. It happens. The shot to the left is Lisa having her dress spray painted. She has several quotes in the article.

MARY, JEREMY AND SNICKERS

I photographed Mary and Jeremy tonight for their "save the date" cards they will send out for the holidays for their upcoming wedding next July. They wanted their dog Snickers, who they rescued, in the photos with them. Cool idea. So we shot a few portraits of the three of them at their house. Then we went to the parking structure in Royal Oak to try and get something different. They were on a time crunch so there wasn't much time to shoot but I like how the above photo came out. Kind of like snickers is their bodyguard. I shot the below photo real quick for fun and think I would like to shoot at this location again and work this shot some more.
I also still feel like crud (see post on my other blog) so a quick shoot tonight was good for me as well.

What a fun wedding to shoot! Wedding photos, my style anyway, turn out so much better when everyone is just themselves and real and lets me tell the story. It helps that Liz is also a newspaper photographer in NY and gets it. It was rainy and nasty out but weather always makes great photos. It was a long day and I was exhausted, still am, but had a blast and can't wait to get some more images up hopefully later tonight. Lots of work but both weddings this weekend were great! I should have a gallery from M&A's wedding up later as well.

Wow what a difference a week makes in weather. Last weekend it was in the 90's and this weekend 50's. Great day for Josh & Shannon for a wedding out in the country up in Oxford. I love being in the country in October. My favorite month.

Stacey and Johns wedding was a blast, I knew it would be. I photographed her sister's wedding a ways back and met Stacey then. She is a little wild which makes great photos. They were married at the Detroit Athletic Club right downtown. Nice view of the ballpark from one of the suites. Cool old building. Great place for a wedding. Everyone had fun for sure!
